Duties and Responsibilities: Fleet Management: Manage and oversee the organization's fleet of vehicles, including trucks, vans, or cars. Ensure the availability, reliability, and maintenance of the fleet to meet operational requirements. Route Planning and Optimisation: Plan and optimize transportation routes to ensure timely and efficient delivery of goods or services to sites. Consider factors such as traffic conditions, delivery schedules, and cost optimization. Logistics Coordination: Coordinate and manage logistics operations, including scheduling, dispatching, and tracking of vehicles. Ensure effective communication and coordination between drivers, warehouse staff, and other stakeholders involved in the transportation process. Compliance with Regulations: Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, such as driver hours of service, vehicle weight limits, and safety standards. Stay updated with changes in transportation regulations and ensure adherence to legal requirements including undertaking any training required. Driver & Labour Management: Recruit, train, and manage a team of drivers. Monitor driver performance, including driving skills, adherence to safety protocols, and compliance with company policies and procedures. Vehicle Maintenance and Repair: Coordinate vehicle maintenance and repair activities. Schedule regular servicing, inspections, and repairs to ensure the fleet is in optimal condition and meets safety standards. Manage relationships with external service providers. Cost Management: Monitor and manage transportation costs, including fuel expenses, maintenance costs, hiring of vehicles and vehicle depreciation. Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to optimize transportation expenses. Risk Management: Identify and mitigate transportation risks, such as accidents, breakdowns, or theft. Implement safety programs and policies to minimize risks and ensure driver and cargo safety. Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor and analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) related to transportation operations, such as on-time delivery, fuel efficiency, and vehicle utilization. Prepare regular reports on transportation performance and present findings to management. Supplier and Vendor Management: Manage relationships with transportation service providers, such as carriers or logistics partners. Negotiate contracts, review service level agreements, and ensure compliance with agreed-upon terms. Customer Service: Ensure excellent customer service by addressing transportation-related inquiries, complaints, or issues. Collaborate with customer service teams to resolve transportation-related customer concerns and maintain positive customer relationships. Environmental Sustainability: Promote environmental sustainability in transportation operations. Implement strategies to reduce fuel consumption, carbon emissions, and environmental impact. Technology and Systems: Utilize transportation management systems (TMS) or other technology platforms to optimize transportation operations, insurance, track vehicles, and manage documentation. Stay updated with emerging transportation technologies and assess their potential benefits for the organization. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains in transportation operations. Implement best practices, evaluate new transportation methods, and drive a culture of continuous improvement within the transport team. Management of goods delivered: Ensure delivery notes are processed and goods are received by the correct person. Stock Control: Regular inventories of consumable stocks including workwear/PPE and re- ordering via the Buyer when required. Quality Assurance: Liaising with the Quality Assurance Manager in relation to goods leaving the workshop in suitable condition for Site Installation. Check sheets to be completed. Skills and Qualifications: A minimum of 3+ years' experience employed within an operational management or similar transport management role. Experience and knowledge of improving transport operations and introducing operational excellence. Proven experience of working within a Unionised Environment is essential. Demonstrate high levels of resilience, self-motivation and flexibility. Must be able to demonstrate proven experience in a changing cultural surrounding - is able to demonstrate/implement and manage, people, structure, job content and behavioural change. Highly experienced in managing formal disciplinary processes and procedures. Excellent knowledge of Road Transport Compliance Regulations. First class people and strong management skills is essential. Able to motivate, influence coach and develop your teams.
