They're currently hunting for a Materials Engineer who will embark on a pivotal role within an innovative automotive project, where your expertise will shape the future of battery enclosure design and manufacturing. As a dedicated materials engineer, you will: Play a crucial part in transitioning collaborative projects from conceptual stages to industrial maturity, ensuring they align with OEM specifications and contribute to the establishment of design guidelines for cutting-edge automotive components. Your role will be instrumental in selecting the most suitable mechanical fasteners and adhesive bonding technologies for battery enclosures, considering the unique properties of proprietary extrusion, casting, and potential sheet aluminium alloys. You will be entrusted with expanding and nurturing a network of technology partners, a vital aspect of this position. In addition to supporting the definition of design and manufacturing rules for cost-effective and lightweight automotive structures, you will engage in defining experiments to enhance internal knowledge. This will aid in the development of next-generation structures and the future-proofing of products and manufacturing techniques. Close collaboration with the R&D team is essential to comprehend the alloy systems used in battery enclosures, aiding in the adhesive bonding selection process. You will also be responsible for developing and executing a testing programme to inform simulation teams and enhance FE modelling capabilities. Your role includes defining and conducting experimental verification trials to optimise the performance, weight, and cost of battery enclosures. This necessitates coordination with external partners and suppliers, as well as internal teams across various locations, including their French research centre. The position requires strong interaction with multidisciplinary teams to deliver adhesive bonding and pre-treatment technologies and support the industrialisation of new technologies. Based at their technology centre in Uxbridge, you will also engage with the design & engineering team to define the best industrialisation route for ALIVE agile technology. As a key member of the Applied R&D programme team, you will help achieve project targets and support fundamental investigations through PhD student collaborations. Interaction with domestic and international OEMs, suppliers, and project partners is integral, as is the ability to travel.
