Senior Functional Safety Engineer Coventry, UK (office based) Two roles exist; Functional Safety Engineer (£30-45k) and Senior Functional Safety Engineer (£45-55k) This description is for the senior role. AVL is the world's largest independent company for the development, simulation, and testing of powertrain systems (hybrid, combustion engine, transmission, electric drive, batteries, fuel cell and control technology) for passenger cars, commercial vehicles, construction, large engines and their integration into the vehicle. Location: Coventry AVL deliver engineering consultancy projects for OEM customers in a number of areas, including but not limited to Transmission, ADAS, Hybrid Vehicles and Electrification. Increasingly, these projects require robust analysis of the functional safety risks and mitigation actions. A Senior Functional Safety Engineer role now exists to act as a central Functional Safety expert across a broad range of consultancy projects, supporting the system engineers by taking responsibility for the Functional Safety deliverables. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES: With support from the system engineers, the role will be to lead the Functional Safety activities as appropriate to the project. This will include the following key activities: * Understand intended functionality of systems in a broad automotive context * Generate the necessary Functional Safety documentation for the project following ISO26262: Fault-tree analysis, Hazard analysis, technical safety concepts and requirements * Lead Functional Safety reviews as needed both internally with the project team and with customers YOUR PROFILE: Essential: * Minimum BSc or BEng (2:1) in Automotive, Electrical, or equivalent Engineering * Significant engineering experience (ideally Systems Engineering) * Experience of leading and delivering Functional Safety activities according to ISO26262 for production automotive projects * Experience in conducting/leading FMEA, FTA, FMEDA, HARA activities * Experience in development of one or more of: automotive powertrain control systems, fuel cell and hydrogen storage systems, high-voltage electrical power supplies, Hybrid vehicles, ADAS features or similar technical fields * Good communication skills * English language (spoken and written) * Driving licence valid for driving in the UK Preferable: * Project Management * Conducted ISO26262 Training * Membership of an appropriate professional body, e.g., SAE, IET; chartership encouraged * Certified in Functional Safety by recognised entities. i.e., TUV NOTE: The role will be based in Coventry, United Kingdom.
