The role As a Principal Engineer you'll have an incredibly exciting role that is out of the ordinary, with links to Hypersonic and High Mach technology to support large projects of work with over £1bn investment. You'll provide technical support to QinetiQ's technology leadership team. You'll have the opportunity to work with a range of the industry's most brilliant minds, as part of a team with chief engineers, technical leads, project managers, subject matter experts and a diverse range of engineers and scientists across the business. Day-to-day, you'll work within our senior technical leader community acting as a System Design Authority (SEA) and Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the design, implementation and test of Rocket and High Mach Systems. This includes the development of test articles, in collaboration with industry partners, and to advice on the launch and tracking of systems during tests; based on knowledge of launch requirements and in-flight performance. Provide subject matter expertise and technical leadership to Rocket and or High Mach Aerospace Research and Development (R&D) and closely related, design, build and test programmes. Lead system design, architecture and integration activity across one or more projects, working with project overall Technical Lead and broader engineering team, industry partners and business development colleagues. Analyse and critique designs (internal and third party) and their compliance to regulatory, engineering and safety standards or requirements, and their coherence with the customer and business need. Identify and monitor technical risks, escalating to business / technical / commercial stakeholders; mitigate and manage with support of broader community. Lead technical discussions and workshops; effectively communicate complex issues to stakeholders at all levels and across business functions. Thsi role is full-time, 37 hours per week, and based at Cody Technology Park in Farnborough, with a hybrid working from home arrangement. There is a requirement for attending face-to-face meetings and/or delivering business across a range of internal and customer sites in line with with project / delivery needs. Essential experience of the Principal Engineer Proven track-record of technical leadership in the aerospace domain, with a focus on research, development and demonstration activity A strong attitude of "systems thinking" and an open-mindedness to new or novel technology Set out, monitor and maintain a technical plan of work for the development of a complex system, from concept through to successful flight test Ability to lead and coordinate complex system analysis (e.g. structural analysis, aerodynamics, physical design configuration and software integration)Highly desirable experience of the Principal Engineer Experience of system model development to support performance assessments Practical experience of rocket/missile system or subsystem testing Experience in the development and maturation of technology readiness levels (increasing TRL) Experience in experimental aerospace sub-system integration and verification activityQualifications for the Principal Engineer Degree level qualification or equivalent, MSc or higher degree preferred, or equivalent experience Specific knowledge or awareness obtained, relating to, Hypersonics, High Mach and Rockets including; vehicle design specification, system design and performance, critical physical, control and performance elements, and their interdependence, launch systems and test environment and context of use and capability view Membership of professional society, including chartership, or equivalent experience.Please note that all applicants must be eligible for SC clearance, as a minimum.
