Yard Hand Location: 10 minutes from Uxbridge, Middlesex Salary: £27,000 – £28,000 per annum Hours: 37 hours per week Overtime: Daily overtime available at 1.5x basic rate Benefits: 25 days holiday + bank holidays, 9% non-contributory pension, early Friday finish We are recruiting for a Yard Hand to join a well-established engineering and manufacturing business based near Uxbridge. This is not just a general labouring role — we are specifically looking for someone with previous waste handling and recycling experience within an industrial or manufacturing environment. You will play a key role in keeping the site safe, compliant and operational through effective waste management and general yard duties. The Role As Yard Hand, your primary responsibility will be managing site waste streams and maintaining external and internal yard areas. Duties include: * Collection, segregation and processing of recyclable waste (metals, plastics, cardboard, timber etc.) * Ensuring correct waste stream compliance and storage procedures * Operating forklift trucks and electric vehicles (including towing) * Emptying bins and departmental waste containers across site * Operating industrial baling and compacting machinery * Carrying out daily safety checks on vehicles and equipment * Maintaining clean, organised and hazard-free yard areas * Supporting reactive tasks such as furniture and equipment moves * Reporting hazards or unsafe practices * Supporting Facilities and site operations when required This is a hands-on, physical role and will involve manual handling. About You To be considered, you must have: * Proven experience handling waste streams within a manufacturing / industrial environment * Knowledge of recycling procedures for metals, plastics, cardboard etc. * A valid Forklift Truck licence * Experience operating machinery and site vehicles * General Health & Safety awareness * A clean UK driving licence * A proactive, reliable and team-focused attitude Security & Screening This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS).
