Technical Buyer / Material Controller – Prototype Build Location: Woking Contract Length: 6 Months (with potential for extension) IR35: Inside Working Hours: 08:00-08:30 to 17:00-17:30 (flexible) Overview: We are seeking a Technical Buyer / Material Controller to join our Prototype Engineering and Supply Chain Team on a six-month contract. This role is critical for ensuring the smooth delivery of early-phase prototype builds, with a focus on technical buying and material control for both carry-over and non-stock part demand. The successful candidate will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to meet part demand requirements and guarantee timely delivery of all received goods to support the prototype build process. Key Responsibilities: Procurement Support: Manage stock and non-stock procurement needs across the Prototype Team, ensuring efficient sourcing and purchasing to meet project objectives. Lean Purchasing Approach: Implement lean strategies to meet key purchasing targets and enhance procurement efficiency. Supplier Performance Monitoring: Track and evaluate supplier performance, collaborating with internal teams to address any issues and drive improvements. Collaborative Working: Engage with the wider purchasing and logistics organisation to promote a cooperative environment and support overall team goals. Requisition Tracking: Diligently follow up on active requisitions to secure timely budget approvals and part deliveries. Prototype Build Support: Work as an integral part of the Prototype Build Team to meet cost, quality, and time targets. Stock Coordination: Oversee stock demands from initial request to final delivery, ensuring parts are delivered accurately and efficiently lineside. Material Planning Collaboration: Liaise directly with Material Planners & Controllers to confirm part release timings and address any related requirements. Documentation Management: Maintain up-to-date and accurate tracking records for all procurement and delivery activities. Skills and Experience Required: Proven experience in managing multiple commodities within procurement and supply chain functions. Demonstrable commercial success in Automotive, Motorsport, or Engineering environments. Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to accuracy and detail. Ability to perform effectively under pressure, demonstrating clear and decisive decision-making. Strong problem-solving skills with the capability to think laterally and objectively. Results-driven, with a proven ability to meet aggressive targets and contribute to overall team objectives. Experience with CAD systems for part review, preferably CATIA. Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel. Experience in supply chain and procurement, dealing with both small and large-value organisations. Preferred experience in material planning and control, with familiarity in using SAP products
