Senior Mechanical Engineer (Welding) – Attractive Northern England - Permanent and Long Term – Military and Defence A Senior Mechanical Engineer is required for an international Defence and Weapons Systems Company that is expanding their team. Hybrid and flexible working arrangements is available for this position. Salary and Seniority will depend on your skills and experience. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be part of the Mechanical Engineering team and will be involved in supporting technical changes to existing company products (i.e Defence and Weapons Systems). The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be involved in the Mechanical Design, Tests and Trials and will have the opportunity to shape the next generation of defence/weapons platforms and future technologies. Key Duties and Responsibilities for the Senior Mechanical Engineer (Welding) Working with internal and external stakeholders. Ensure that welding specifications and inspection acceptance criteria are met. Supervising/documenting welding operations and assessing welding/casting non-conformances. Providing technical assessments and solutions on welds when applicable. Leading the development of solutions to technical issues as a member of a project team. Reporting to Technical Leads and directly to the customer. Leading and/or supporting solutions to production and manufacturing. Technical queries raised by suppliers, internal stakeholders (i.e. Operations Team). Non-conformance reports and developing design solutions based on customer requirements. Validating, and verifying through the design process and reviewing/checking design work. Providing help and direction to less experienced engineers. Carrying out technical analysis and investigations and preparing reports. Support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability. Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications Required for the Senior Mechanical Engineer (Welding) Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline, or experience within engineering. Experience writing and reviewing technical reports and specifications. Design experience in a multi-disciplined, production and/or manufacturing environment. Experience performing structural/stress analysis and is familiar with product data management. Working knowledge of technical office processes, standards and standard instructions. Familiarity with engineering drawing standards and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Experience working with welding codes standards and requirements. Experience assessing welded structures (desirably titanium), determining their suitability. Analysis and providing technical solutions and conclusions to non-conforming welds or casts. Previous experience assessing welds on pressure vessel and shell structures, ensuring compliance.
