Position Title: Powertrain Calibration/System Performance Engineer Duration: Permanent Location: Coventry Our Client has a number of exciting opportunities for Calibration/System Performance Engineers to work in the NRMM and related industries. Our Client is a World Class engineering powertrain consultancy, delivering robust projects and technical services for major clients across multiple sectors. These roles will see the successful candidates embedded in client teams, delivering projects and providing expert technical support. As a member of the Client, you will have full access to a network of the Clients' engineers & experience to grow professionally and provide focused & relevant solutions that add value to our clients & customers. The roles will typically cover a variety of functions and disciplines, including ICE calibration, powertrain system performance development, data analysis, issue investigation & resolution, system modelling and simulation. Work in new powertrain sectors (battery, fuel cell, etc) is also a possibility. Some industry or academic experience is preferred, but training will be offered & given to candidates as required. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and manage powertrain calibrations using client &/or Client toolsets & processes Define, generate & manage engine test plans Planning, execution and analysis of engine & system simulation activities System performance assessment, including trade-offs and data analysis Data review and root cause analysis (RCA) to identify powertrain system issues & develop solutions for resolution System modelling, calibration simulation, using toolsets such a MatLab SIMULINK Functioning within a professional team, generate & present reports (verbal & written) including recommendations and proposals Work with other company's & Client teams to deliver project objectives Promote best practice and robust technical solutions using Client toolsets as appropriate YOUR PROFILE: Essential: 2:1 or above Bachelors or Master's degree in a relevant topic Excellent understanding of diesel internal combustion engine operation and performance Knowledge of ancillary systems (air path, exhaust after treatment technologies, control, etc) Understanding of vehicle architecture & control systems Experience or knowledge of vehicle emissions requirements Good knowledge of simulation systems, particularly MatLab SIMULINK Working knowledge of calibration toolsets & engine calibration, including trade-offs for emissions and performance Excellent analytical skills, able to interpret data and results and present results in a clear & understandable format Strong team player, with good communication & English language skills A self-starter, 'can-do' approach, able to work with other team members at all levels to reach 'win-win' agreements A strong willingness to learn and develop Preferable: PhD in relevant subject Knowledge of the off highway (NRMM) or heavy duty on road sector, including emissions legislation (Stage V, Tier 4 final, etc) Experience of using calibration and data analysis tools (e.g.: CONCERTO, Vector CANape, CAMEO, DIAdem, etc) An understanding in the techniques, process, toolsets & methodology for Virtual Calibration Expert NRMM ICE experience (calibration, analysis & simulation) Good knowledge of NRMM machines and associated systems An interest in non-ICE based power technologies (Fuel Cells, battery systems, etc) Controls & calibration development using SiL & MiL techniques Familiarisation with 1-D simulation tools (e.g. GT-Power) BENEFITS: EV Lease Scheme (Salary Sacrifice) Flexi-time (applies to most roles) Private Medical Insurance and Health Cash Plan Cycle to Work Scheme 22 days holiday per year (increases by 1 day annually up to the max. of 28 days) Special occasion leave (eligibility after probation, subject to conditions) Pension scheme Life Assurance and Income Protection Insurance One paid professional membership annually
