OVERVIEW We are working in partnership with a growing Silverstone-based, high performance vehicle engineering, engaged in a number of exciting and motorsport / track-based vehicle projects. Due to the level of project autonomy, they require a new Head of Mechanical Systems, with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in complex mechanical system design as a prerequisite. This is a hands-on engineering role and requires applicants to have a high proficiency in and willingness to work with CATIA. You will be communicating with clients and suppliers at all levels. As a result, you will also need to demonstrate effective communication & project management skills. You will need to think creatively about a design solution, adaptable to client requirements and be able to work independently whilst communicating with your engineering team(s). KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES Technical Management * Management of cross-functional engineering teams to deliver engineering projects * Technical management of all mechanical system elements of engineering projects * Leadership and unification of mechanical design methodologies for engineering projects * Developing design specifications to meet project requirements in terms of budget & timeline * Extensive use of CAE (in-house & external resources), for concept & component engineering to meet * project objectives * Identify, direct, and implement risk analysis (DFMEA) across full project scope * Lead design for manufacturing (DFM) discussions with supplier network * Responsible for all technical engineering drawing sign-off at Senior Engineer approval level * Definition of mechanical component & system testing requirements * Manage execution of mechanical component & system testing and overall project validation * Leadership of mechanical system build process & servicing considerations Project Management * Preparation & delivery of project design specifications (internal & client facing) * Manage project engineering budget * Engineering resource management to ensure project delivery * Control project bill of materials & engineering change management process * Manage project design reviews (internal & client facing) * Manage project cost & timing reviews (internal & client facing) * Manage project delivery in alignment with the company’s operations team Personnel Development * Support the management/development of graduate engineers & junior team members * Support the company in promotional activities including technology shows, industry trade fairs & STEM events
