Our client, a specialist engineering consultancy, requires a contract manufacturing engineer with expertise in measurement systems. This contract is outside IR35. This role is 100% remote, but with international travel to client sites approximately 4 days each month. As a Manufacturing Engineering working in a dynamic consultancy business, you will be responsible for visiting our clients' production facilities to review process variation, reducing special cause variation through identification of maintenance requirements, standardisation of procedures, improving tooling and fixturing, and implementing continuous improvement methods. Additionally, you will be an expert in measurement systems, capable of identifying appropriate measurement systems and conducting Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) and Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (Gauge R&R) to produce accurate process data for input into digital twins. Responsibilities: * Visit clients' production facilities in Europe to conduct thorough reviews of process variation. * Work closely with shop floor production staff and client domain experts to quickly develop an expert understanding of production processes. * Identify and analyse special cause variations affecting production processes. * Standardise procedures and workflows to enhance efficiency and consistency. * Reduce process changeover times through the use of standard work, SMED principles and technology interventions such alternative to threaded fasteners, use of jigs and fixtures and setting pieces. * Determine maintenance requirements to eliminate special cause variation and improve overall process stability. * Evaluate tooling and fixturing to optimise production processes and minimise defects. * Assess measurement systems used in production processes and where required recommend appropriate measurement systems based on accuracy, precision, and suitability. * Implement measurement systems and conduct Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) to ensure reliable and accurate measurement data. * Perform Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (Gauge R&R) studies to assess measurement system variability. * Collaborate with digital engineering team to provide a practical perspective on the requirement for and the development of digital twins, reviewing %confidence of models and supporting the growth in confidence through the identification of parameters which need to be included in the digital twin. Requirements: * Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred. * Extensive experience in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on measurement systems development, process variation analysis and improvement. * Strong knowledge of maintenance requirements, procedure standardisation, tooling, fixturing, and continuous improvement methodologies. * Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles. * Expertise in measurement systems, Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA), and Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (Gauge R&R). * Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. * Strong communication and presentation abilities, with the capability to interact effectively with clients and internal teams. * Willingness to travel frequently across Europe to visit client sites. * Proven track record of successfully delivering projects within budget and time constraints
