Contextual Design Engineer – Packaging / DMU Location: Crewe Hybrid (1-day onsite) Contract length: Initial contract until end of 2024, extensions likely. Outside IR35 Contextual Design Engineer – Packaging / DMU required to join a luxury and performance automotive manufacturer based in Crewe on a contracting basis. Our client is a British icon with a heritage spanning over 100 years, renowned for designing and handcrafting some of the world's most exquisite vehicles using the craftsmanship of exceptional people and the finest materials. As the Contextual Design Engineer – Packing / DMU, you will be responsible for understanding the part context within the whole vehicle design to support a new BEV project. You will work zonally to cover the full vehicle, including Front, Underfloor, Rear, Sides, Upper, and Interior zones. Contextual Design Engineer Key Duties: Responsible for running weekly cross-functional Package Reviews, managing an Issues Tracker, identifying issues, and ensuring timely resolution in collaboration with Part Owners in the R&D Functions. Responsible for creating Issue Sheets for all relevant concerns and keeping them up to date through to resolution. Responsible for liaising with R&D Functions to establish feasible and cost-effective package and system solutions. Responsible for raising KPMs (business-wide issue tracking system) for unresolved issues. Collation of reports and KPIs into the agreed presentation format. Creation of presentations in PowerPoint to aid decision-making. Ensuring adherence to the agreed Packaging Process while working flexibly to implement improvements as needed. Serving as a point of contact for Packaging issues within the Contextual Design team. Collaborating closely with other Contextual Design Engineers and Cross-Functional groups to resolve problems in a timely manner. Additional Activities: Loading parts in context within the Vehicle, configuring and filtering surrounding live CAD data prior to working. Ensuring the CAD dataset is valid and relevant before performing analyses such as Contact, Clash, and Clearance Analysis. Representing the team robustly at wider business forums like Surface Reviews to ensure fundamental attributes and geometry of the Concept Package are respected and adhered to while supporting overall design maturation. Contextual Design Engineer Skills Required: Degree in Automotive, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering. Previous Packaging / DMU experience. Proficiency in CATIA V5 is essential. Experience with LCA would be beneficial. Experience with BEV vehicles would be ideal. Experience with multiple vehicle zones is advantageous. Ability to work independently with autonomy.
