Title: Body in White (BIW) Design Engineer Location: Kiddlington & Warwick Department: Engineering / Product Development Contract: 6 months (immediate start) Rate: £32-£34 Job Description: We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Body in White (BIW) Design Engineer to join our automotive engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and validation of BIW components and assemblies, ensuring structural integrity, manufacturability, and compliance with safety and performance standards. This role plays a critical part in bringing innovative vehicle structures from concept to production. Key Responsibilities: * Design and develop BIW components and systems, including underbody, upper body, closures, and structural reinforcements. * Create 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using industry-standard CAD software (e.g., CATIA, Siemens NX, SolidWorks). * Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, CAE, Materials, and Vehicle Integration to ensure design feasibility and alignment with overall vehicle architecture. * Ensure BIW designs meet weight, cost, performance, crashworthiness, and regulatory targets. * Conduct and support design reviews, DFMEA, and packaging studies. * Provide technical support for prototype build, testing, and production launch. * Implement design changes based on simulation results, testing feedback, and continuous improvement initiatives. * Work closely with suppliers to ensure design intent and manufacturability of BIW parts. * Stay current with new materials, joining technologies, and industry trends. Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field. * Excellent experience in automotive BIW design or a related area. * Proficiency in CAD software (CATIA V5/V6, Siemens NX, etc.). * Strong knowledge of sheet metal design, welding, joining processes, and structural analysis fundamentals. * Familiarity with automotive development processes (APQP, PPAP) and GD&T. * Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Preferred Qualifications: * Master’s degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering. * Experience with lightweight materials (aluminum, composites). * Knowledge of crash simulation data interpretation. * Previous experience with global OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers. * Experience with PLM systems (Teamcenter, ENOVIA).
