Job title: Vehicle Technician Responsible to: Fleet Manager Responsible for: No Staff Reports Key skill/qualification level To operate and maintain company vehicles and plant equipment, following all company procedures including Health and Safety procedures, ensuring compliance at all times. Job purpose Maintain and operate company vehicles and plant equipment and Key success factors At all times ensure that high standards are met for: • Health and safety, protection of the environment and quality • Quality and workmanship • Customer care • Presentation • The care of company equipment • Co-operation with, and mutual respect for others • Honesty; commitment, care and team harmony values Main duties and responsibilities • Operating and maintaining company vehicles / plant equipment • Conduct body and bin lift servicing as per manufacturers guidelines • Follow all Gaskells procedures ensuing compliance • Aware of Gaskells Health & Safety Policy ensuring compliance • Job cards and completed defect sheets, to be handed to the Fleet Department daily • Performing preventative maintenance tasks on vehicles / plant • Completing daily worksheets / service sheets accurately • Prioritise work loads • Report any incidents / near misses as soon as they occur/ damages • Correctly interpret instructions from the job card/repair orders, to follow all documented quality procedures, instructions, stipulated settings and tolerances from manufacturer manuals bulletins check sheets etc. • Check and test vehicles and plant equipment, as required by documented procedures. • Ensure that the workshop is kept in a clean and tidy condition and all scrap, etc. is removed immediately upon completion of each repair. • Accurately report and record work done and tests carried out and to immediately report any further work required or vehicle faults. • Protect and maintain all tools and equipment by only using them in the prescribed manner and returning them to their place of storage immediately after use. • Immediately report any loss, shortage, damage or malfunction of tools and equipment or if any additional tools or equipment are required to complete the repair. • Carry out all duties in an accurate, efficient and timely manner. • Carry out pre- MOT inspections and repairs as required to meet required standards. • To carry out PMI’s and Defect rectification to a high standard in a safe efficient manner in accordance with regulations This position description shows the principal responsibilities of the job at the date of issue. Specialist knowledge/skills and abilities Essential • Apprenticeship served • Minimum of 2-3 years experience in a similar role Desirable • HGV Driving Licence Training, experience, qualifications required Essential • Sound knowledge of lifting equipment • Sound knowledge of recycling plant equipment Desirable • Electrical knowledge an advantage • Basic Welding Skills Other requirements Essential • Flexible working • Positive can-do attitude • Ability to work unsupervised
