My client in Milton Keynes is currently in need of a Senior Production Engineer. The Production Engineer - Robotics & Automation will explore, research, and implement automation and robotics solutions to enhance the production of existing and new products. This hands-on role offers significant opportunities for personal growth and future leadership opportunities whilst contributing to the advancement of automation within the Company. The ideal candidate will be a fast learner who can work independently and effectively within a cross-functional tram. Production Engineering Core Tasks: * Identify, evaluate, and present automation opportunities that improve safety, reduce costs, simplify skill requirements, increase output, and meet quality standards. Conduct initial reviews, define scope, and provide budget and justification to seek approval for automation projects. Collaborate with Production Engineering to develop tender documents and review suitable automation suppliers. * For approved projects, manage specification alignment, commercial agreements, and quotations. Present final plans for approval and proceed with project planning, management, and implementation, including overseeing suppliers, engineering, production, and quality teams. * Design jigs, fixtures, and ensure effective robot programming. Deliver lean-structured process documents, work instructions, and standard operation procedures. Assist with lean logistics setup and storage for automation, defining standard times and optimizing workflow. * Oversee commissioning, spares, TPM requirements, and training for a successful handover to production, providing ongoing support for upgrades and new parts. Maintain data structures for the automation process and ensure compliance with health and safety standards. Conduct risk assessments and audits to eliminate inefficiencies before handover and assist in resolving issues during project implementation. * Support Production Engineering with automation initiatives across production areas Automation Specialist Tasks: * Assist with specifying, setting up, and commissioning new robotic equipment and facilities. * Generate and adjust programs for new and existing product welds. * Monitor and ensure the integrity of automated welds. * Oversee weld facilities, adjusting welds and tooling as needed. * Manage and control all MIG, MAG, GMAW and TIG welding processes, providing technical assistance to relevant departments. * Direct and document all MIG/MAG and TIG welding processes. * Provide hands-on technical support to teams. * Help develop and integrate automated/robotic welding processes. * Assess welding processes for quality, productivity, and function. * Train others in welding practices. * Support internal and external audits of welding processes. * Perform basic mechanical and electrical repairs. Qualifications & Experience * Bachelor’s degree in Robotics / Engineering or 5 years relevant experience. * Good understanding of robotic applications. * Robotic programming and maintenance capability. * Demonstrated working knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma in the manufacturing field preferable. * Excellent analytical skills combined with good negotiation and conflict management skills with proficiency in computers would be beneficial. * Ability to read engineering drawings.
