1. Job Details Job Title: Senior Manufacturing Engineer Department: Engineering Reporting to: Engineering, Programming & NPI Manager Location: Christchurch, Dorset 2. Overall Purpose As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer, you will work under the guidance of the Engineering, Programming & NPI Manager to lead a team of Manufacturing Engineers. Your primary responsibility will be to determine the methods, machines, tooling, and processes necessary to efficiently, economically, and safely manufacture our products. This role also involves modifying process plans, as needed, in response to experience, drawing revisions, or process changes. Additionally, you may occasionally be tasked with preparing and estimating customer requests for quotes (RFQs), which includes breaking down customer inquiries into labour hours, material costs, and tooling expenses for quotation purposes. 3. Key Areas of Responsibility - Leadership and workload management for the engineering team - Problem-solving and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders - Involvement in new product introduction (NPI) - Determining the methods, tooling, and processes for manufacturing our products - Providing recommendations on equipment necessary for manufacturing components to meet customer specifications - Collaborating with customers and subcontractors to address technical queries - Working with Shop Supervisors to resolve technical issues and ensure effective planning for new products - Updating target working times on process planning sheets when necessary - Staying informed about new methods, processes, equipment, and products - Undertaking any other duties required to ensure the department and company run smoothly - Creating and maintaining Local Control Documents (LCDs), Process Control Documents (PCDs), and other necessary documentation for manufacturing our products - Estimating labour hours, material costs, and tooling requirements for manufacturing components to customer specifications - Estimating the type and cost of tooling needed for manufacturing components to customer specifications - Submitting times and values for estimate breakdown, clearly indicating all cost elements on approved estimate sheets 4. Experience Required - Leadership experience or a strong desire to develop leadership skills - Experience in Metallic Areas, Sheet Metal Forming, Welding, Resistance Welding, Aerospace Assembly Structures, Aerospace Sector Planning and Estimating - Experience in Composites and Machine Shop planning is advantageous 5. Key Knowledge Areas - Comprehensive knowledge of Sheet Metal Forming, Metallic Assemblies, Fabrications, Heat Treatment, and Surface Treatment 6. Key Skills and Technical Requirements - Effective team player - Leadership abilities - Recognised Qualification (HNC preferred but not mandatory) 7. Person Profile - Self-motivated with a strong sense of resourcefulness and commitment - Excellent attention to detail - Adaptability, flexibility, and a proactive approach - Strong communication skills - Team player mindset - Professional or personal experience in leadership roles
