Principal Firmware Engineer Contract - Permanent Hours - Full time 37 hrs Location: Glenrothes #fws Raytheon UK is looking for an experienced and high performing Principal Firmware /Digital Engineering Lead to join a successful Power Products team within the Systems & Products department. The Principal Firmware Engineer will be the focal point for architecting the complete control solution on one or more Power Products, overseeing the technical integration of contributions from other engineering disciplines. It represents a unique and exciting opportunity for an experienced digital engineer to really make their mark on a broad and varied range of Power Product developments. The role: Assessing customer requirements - Deriving detailed FPGA/Firmware requirements for complex systems. Power Product design and development - Architecting the control solution in collaboration with the Principal Hardware Engineer. Developing these concepts through to final production. Modelling and simulations of control functions to be verified and validated. Developing the model-based design process and tools to enable rapid controller development. Designing to meet and follow industry standards such as RTCA D0-254 or similar. Liaising with academia and industry experts. Essential Skills: Experience of VHDL based FPGA design and verification techniques. Practical experience of FPGA technology from Xilinx, Altera and/or Actel. Ability to de-bug and test new firmware designs and supporting module and system related test, verification and integration. Fully understand circuit operation, debug, diagnose and implement fixes. Good problem-solving skills, willing to take ownership as well as positively contributing within cross-discipline teams. Experience in simulation (Matlab Simulink or Spice) Experienced in system modelling. Proven Technical leadership on development programmes. Experience in interpretation of customer specs and end use environments. Work with Customers to develop the technical requirements and then manage these requirements through the product development. Good communication skills. Ability to tailor communications to level and audience at all levels. Willingness to travel throughout the UK, Europe and the US. Eligible or current holder of SC security clearance. Desired Skills: Experience using the Mentor Graphics tool suit; DxDesigner, Constraints Editor, HyperLynx tools such as Signal Integrity & Power Analyser, SystemVision simulation or equivalents would be advantageous. Proven analytical skills in circuit simulation and thermal analysis. Design of Invertor and Power Factor Correction power supplies and exposure to other topologies. Experience of working with Industry standard toolsets (e.g. DOORs). Required Education/Experience: BEng/ MSc / MEng /PhD in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or similar, with appropriate specialisation in FPGA/Firmware/digital design techniques and embedded development. Candidates with other qualifications and relevant experience will be considered.
