Mechanical Design Engineer Silverstone, Northamptonshire £40,000 - £48,000 + bonus + shares + benefits A position exists for an experienced mechanical design engineer to join an electric vehicle technology company based in Silverstone, Northants. The company is involved with the design and development of electric motors and electric drive units (EDUs) for automotive electric vehicle powertrain applications. The role will involve both the design and development of existing products as well as design of new concepts. Required - Mechanical Design Engineer: * Experience of mechanical design engineering of precision mechanical systems (ideally dynamic moving parts) * Use of high-end 3D CAD tools for design (e.g. Solidworks) * Strong engineering process and documentation skills (e.g. PLM, PPAP, etc) * Good problem solving, root cause analysis and troubleshooting skills * Experience of taking products into manufacture (ideally DFM / DFA experience) The purpose of this role is to continue the development of products as they launch into production but also the aid in the ongoing development and enhancement of existing products. There will also be scope for new product / concept design. The role would most likely suit a mechanical design engineer that has good experience of taking products into production. Good engineering process knowledge is required as well as problem solving skills. Skills / Knowledge- Mechanical Design Engineer: * Ideally a degree or similar in a relevant subject (e.g., mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, etc) * At least 2-3 years of relevant industry experience post-academia * Experience of mechanical design engineering of precision mechanical systems (ideally dynamic moving parts, automotive powertrain, etc) * Use of high-end 3D CAD tools for design (e.g. Solidworks) * Strong engineering process and documentation skills (e.g. PLM, PPAP, etc) * Good problem solving, root cause analysis and troubleshooting skills. * Experience of taking products into manufacture (ideally DFM / DFA experience) * Good organisational, planning and communication skills. Others - * Good grounding in the principles of the mechanical design of complex rotating assemblies would be useful. * Able to work effectively in a fast paced, small company environment in conjunction with test technicians DVP engineers, product engineering and R&D teams. * Ideally have applied design and analysis skills to electric motor systems or similar rotating electromechanical systems or perhaps automotive powertrain products.
