LEAD Manufacturing Engineer £Competitive Birmingham --- MDE are recruiting for a Lead Manufacturing Engineer to support the introduction of a new business unit with an estimated revenue of £100m. This role will be within an implementation team to set up the facility and develop fully automated processes, including machinery specification, process verification and validation. You will be a pivotal stakeholder in the success of this new facility. The primary focus of this role is to define the scope for mass production assembly equipment. This includes generating specifications that ensure supplier compliance and that the system components interface safely and effectively in accordance with the project timeline. There will be a requirement to liaise with customers, external suppliers, internal stakeholders, and training/governance bodies. The role is based in Sutton Coldfield, however, travel to manufacturing plants, supplier sites, and customer facilities may be required. Role Summary Define the scope and specification of mass production assembly equipment to achieve quality and delivery metrics Obtain quotes for specified equipment from the supply base and work with the Group Purchasing team to ensure competitiveness and adherence to project timelines. This includes: Terms and Conditions in line with business requirements Payment terms Training plan Documentation Spares TPM schedule Risk management Work with the site engineering team to accommodate machinery in accordance with the timing plan and product requirements. Scope includes: Materials movements and storage, including waste management Services (air, water, etc.) Provision of the correct environment for the equipment, maintaining cleanliness levels as per customer specifications CDM compliance, in collaboration with HS&E specialists Manage and achieve SAT, FAT, and PSW in accordance with the timing plan Work with Finance to manage the budget for MP, including: Invoicing against triggers, providing supporting evidence as required Cash management Work with Manufacturing Engineering throughout to ensure an effective handover and training of key staff Be the reference point for technical and system aspects Assist with fault finding and continuous improvement activities Define and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to adhere to process and prevent non-conformities related to product, process, or system Write reports and present progress on projects in internal and external stakeholder meetings Undertake special projects as required Skills/Knowledge Required Circa 4 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing role, preferably with high volume/high-speed production Expertise in in-line manufacturing process / assembly lines preferred High degree of technical skill in systems integration and controls systems Ability to plan and deliver complex projects on time and to specification Experience working in a diverse and dynamic environment Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to present complex data effectively and utilise it to drive decisions and process control specifications Experience with Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma, and structured problem-solving tools Understanding of PUWER, CE marking, and other relevant standards Familiarity with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) Knowledge of IATF16949, ISO9000, ISO14001, ISO45001, ISO50001, and Health, Safety, and Environmental practises Understanding of cost and financial impacts Strong team player with the ability to work within defined deadlines Hold a valid full driving licence Please note, all applicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK
