The main job function of the HGV Workshop Controller / HGV Technician Charge Hand / Fleet Engineer / HGV Mechanic / Heavy Vehicle Technician / Heavy Vehicle Mechanic / Workshop Foreman / Fleet Maintenance Engineer / Mechanic / Workshop Supervisor / HGV Lead Technician / HGV Charge Hand / HGV Foreman is to ensure the profitable and efficient operation of the Tunbridge Maintenance Workshop whilst achieving maximum utilisation from productive staff ensuring correct processes are followed. Aim of role for the HGV Workshop Controller / HGV Technician Charge Hand / Fleet Engineer / HGV Mechanic / Heavy Vehicle Technician / Heavy Vehicle Mechanic / Workshop Foreman / Fleet Maintenance Engineer / Mechanic / Workshop Supervisor / HGV Lead Technician / HGV Charge Hand / HGV Foreman: Key component parts being: * To Maintain and repair vehicles in accordance with Company Policy. * To apply professional technical methods and standards. * Line Manager to about 10 mechanics * Assist Mechanics with diagnostics or technical issues they may have * To communicate with the Customer and maintenance desk during and after maintenance / repair processes and immediately report any vehicle VOR to customer and to maintenance team providing customer a copy of the defect note. * To complete a given workload in an expected timely manner. * To complete and submit all associated documentation in an expected timely manner, this includes following all processes once implemented. * Have a willingness to accept technical training from internal and external sources. * To respect equipment provided by the company to enable duties. * Hold, or be prepared to train for, the relevant licences to drive or test vehicles and equipment. * Have knowledge of the DVSA standards for heavy and light vehicles. * Observe the company’s documented safe working practices and Risk Assessment. * Respect documented COSHH handling and storage practices. * To be always polite and courteous when dealing with colleagues and/or customers. * Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment at your work station. Key Responsibilities of the HGV Workshop Controller / HGV Technician Charge Hand / Fleet Engineer / HGV Mechanic / Heavy Vehicle Technician / Heavy Vehicle Mechanic / Workshop Foreman / Fleet Maintenance Engineer / Mechanic / Workshop Supervisor / HGV Lead Technician / HGV Charge Hand / HGV Foreman: * To ensure high standards of quality and keeping rectification work to a minimum. * To use initiative and work in conjunction with the Customer Service Reception to ensure that the workshops are always loaded to their full potential controlling labour efficiency and productivity to required expectations. * To identify jobs that are exceeding their allocated times and address these issues as appropriate with the relevant technicians/workshop supervisors. * To control the day to day running of the workshop at Tunbridge Wells location and liaise with VMU Manager. * To manage the handover of complex or potentially contentious jobs to ensure full buy in and agreement from the customer. * To manage the performance of the Service Department to ensure that KPI targets are met * Ensure that productive staff are aware of their workload and standard times The successful HGV Workshop Controller / HGV Technician Charge Hand / Fleet Engineer / HGV Mechanic / Heavy Vehicle Technician / Heavy Vehicle Mechanic / Workshop Foreman / Fleet Maintenance Engineer / Mechanic / Workshop Supervisor / HGV Lead Technician / HGV Charge Hand / HGV Foreman will have: * Technical qualifications equivalent to City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in HGV Vehicle Technology * Previous experience with a supervisory /managerial capacity, within the Commercial Vehicle Industry. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Full knowledge of VOSA requirements and MOT testers manual. * An understanding of Operators Licence Laws and Regulations. * Ability to maintain personal technical knowledge and skills and remain up to date on best working practices. * Class 1 HGV Licence is an advantage * Ability to work well under pressure and on own initiative. * Computer literate and a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
