Vehicle Technician Wanted — Join a Trusted Local Name Since 1957.
Orbit has been a trusted name on the roads around Wellingborough and Rushden for over 50 years. As a family-run, AA Approved garage, we've built our reputation on honest advice, keen prices and genuinely skilled workmanship — and we're looking for an experienced technician to strengthen our workshop team.
This isn't a one-make dealership role. You'll be working across the full spread of the UK vehicle parc — cars and vans, mainstream and premium, petrol, diesel, hybrid and increasingly EV — so no two days look the same. We need someone who's confident and capable across the heavier, more involved jobs: clutches, timing chains, wet belts and full engine replacements, not just routine servicing.
As a long standing family business you are treated as an individual, not just another cog in the corporate machine. Come and join the Orbit family.
What you'll be doing
- Diagnosing and repairing faults across a wide range of makes and models
- Clutch replacements, timing chain jobs and wet belt services
- Engine removal, rebuild and replacement work
- Freeing stuck and corroded fasteners using sound engineering judgement rather than brute force
- General servicing, brakes, batteries and MOT-related repairs
- Welding, fabrication and gas torch work where needed to get a job done properly
What we're looking for
- Proven experience as a vehicle technician, ideally NVQ/IMI/City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent time served)
- Strong engineering instincts - the patience and know-how to deal with seized bolts, corroded fixings and awkward strip-downs without causing more work
- Comfortable with diagnostic equipment and a methodical approach to fault-finding
- Full, UK driving licence
Bonus skills that'll put you top of the pile (nice to have, not essential — happy to support further training)
- MOT Tester licence (Class 4/7)
EV/Hybrid qualification (IMI Level 2/3/4) - increasingly valuable as the parc electrifies
- Air conditioning servicing / F-Gas certification
- Wheel alignment and ADAS calibration experience
- Auto-electrical fault finding, including immobiliser/security systems (SERMI-aware a plus)
- Confident with welding equipment and a gas torch
Why Orbit
- Family-run business with over 50 years of history and a loyal local customer base
- AA Approved garage - you'll be working to a recognised standard, not cutting corners
- Fully equipped workshop alongside ATA-qualified and master technicians
- Manufacturer-approved parts and a genuine "do it right, first time" culture
- Support for further qualifications (MOT licence, EV/hybrid, air-con) if you don't already hold them
If you can turn your hand to anything that rolls into the workshop — and you take pride in doing it properly — we'd like to hear from you.
