Engineering Manager Gloucestershire Benefits including 23 days holiday + bank holidays, private healthcare, company performance related bonus Having been established for over 100 years, a leading export manufacturing business based in the heart of Gloucestershire is now search for an Engineering Manager.   Working as part of the Senior Leadership Team, the incoming candidate will ensure that the business continues to challenge the boundaries of innovation and product development. The business already enjoys strong market positioning and share across most (if not all) of their product categories; but the future growth of the business demands new and innovative products to further enhance the product offering Managing a small team and working closely with the global Product management, marketing and sales teams, the key responsibilities of this role will include: Developing and implementing a clear technical product strategy for the business Identifying new products through assessment, development and implementation Managing the product life cycle ensuring that on an ongoing basis the product portfolio and its support match the needs of the diverse global markets served by the business Offering technical product support of the product portfolio to sales, marketing, distributors and end users Managing all areas of technical product support for internal and external stakeholders. You'll be directly involved with: Identifying new product opportunities by understanding and interpreting customer needs Development of new product engineering design briefs Revision of existing product designs Championing and process ownership of new product introductions Ensuring all components and products meet legal standards Evaluation of product component costs on an on-going basis Ongoing analysis of technical data to ensure product groups are continually reviewed for improvement or expansion opportunities Liaising with Global Sales Team to make strategic decisions on bringing products to end of life Responsible for the Technical team, the development process and project management Responsible for ensuring all new products are taken through a robust launch process involving all relevant parties both in house and customer as appropriate Co-ordinate with relevant departments for product hand over, factory trials and project launches Responsible for ensuring that the departmental team manage their portfolio of projects to maximise customer satisfaction and achieve company financial targets Development of new products beyond current accepted product range to take advantage of opportunities as and when they arise. Blue sky development that can influence the strategic direction of the company.  Forge strong working relationships with all internal and external project stakeholders Identification of new raw materials and component parts with suppliers and purchasing and agreement of specification Hands on approach to problem solving and design functions Safety approvals – This position conducts and evaluates electrical, quality, performance, safety and reliability testing of product design on prototypes and finished product. The Person: To be considered for this role, you'll need: A degree level qualification in a relevant Technical/Engineering discipline Strong people management skills and experience. Several years’ proven Technical Management experience so you're able to assess new product opportunities, support in creation of business cases and liaise with customers. Strong relevant experience in engineering and product development. Ability to manage design changes and updates Experience in management of 3rd party manufacturing and product development Experience of mechanical/electronics design and 2D/3D CAD manipulation Commercial acumen and customer focus – balancing the needs of the customer with those of the business Experience of writing formal business communications and making presentations to senior management and customers Experience of end to end development process from concept to launch of products Strong verbal and written communication and influencing skills with the ability to coach and include naturally.
