Component Development Engineer Up to £32/hr - Inside IR35 Peterborough/Remote - Hybrid 12 month initial contract Diesel Engines The successful applicant will join the component engineering team and take responsibility for design and development activities of components and systems for our clients brand engine ranges. Each project provides the opportunity to work on the design and development of engines intended to meet the latest emissions legislation, with world-class levels of quality and reliability. You will be part of a small, friendly team working together to deliver programmes that are critical to the long-term success of a respected, global company. Key Responsibilities: Assume component development responsibilities within a small, dedicated team to introduce key components onto our range of diesel engines. Develop and optimize the validation plan, gaining team and stakeholder approval. Drive it to completion through tests at the supplier and within our engine R&D centre. Investigate and resolve technical issues using 8D methodology (establish containment actions, diagnose root cause, develop permanent corrective actions). Plan and communicate progress to peers, stakeholders, and management. Collaborate closely with the design engineers to develop and refine the solution and support the release of parts onto bills of material in preparation for volume production. Through this role, the successful candidate will have an excellent opportunity to take part in, and have significant responsibility for, the end-to-end design/development process for engine components and systems.  To apply for this position you should have some of the following: Strong technical background: bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electronic, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering is preferred, though other qualifications/experience will be considered. Experience with APQP, FMEA, DVP and issue resolution. Good understanding of manufacturing principles and processes. Good understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals and engine/component design. Knowledge of engine systems, in particular the fuel system. Engineering experience gained in the off-highway sector. Experience of using Siemens TeamCenter PLM software. Strong analytical skills, and experience of developing mechanical components and systems through simulation, rig testing and complete system testing.
