Design Engineer To £35,000 per annum (negotiable dependant on experience) Full time 37.5 hours per week Permanent role Our client, a leading UK Automotive specialist, delivering a range of services and innovative products, designed to exceed the exacting specifications and quality requirements of their customers seek a Design Engineer to join the team in Daventry. Responsibilities: * Reporting to the Engineering Director * Work in accordance with any Legislative or company requirements for Health Safety and Environment. * Use of Catia V5 (surface, solid and 2D) to design exhaust systems and other automotive parts with consideration for customer cad and/or packaging data. * Creation of CAD data and drawings for customer approval. * Working as part of the wider Engineering Design Team to achieve high quality objectives within demanding timescales. * Delivering customer projects within a supportive team structure. * Design, development, adjustment and commissioning of Tools, Jigs and Fixtures for both Prototype and Production use and to coordinate the assembly thereof * Arrange in-house or external manufacture of prototype parts and monitor supply. * Review measurement data for first off parts with the Quality Team and approve/reject as appropriate. * Update design, drawings and jigs/fixtures to match approved parts if applicable. * Understanding of tolerance analysis (Form, fit and function) and Design for Manufacture/ Design for Assembly. * The correct application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances (GD&T). * A full understanding of the development of datum structures as applied to components and products. * Supporting the Project Manager in achieving timing / targets for development and release. * Ability to present design proposals to management at gateway meetings / Design Reviews and to report regular project status updates. * To be able to work as part of a collaborative team in achieving the best outcomes. * Ability to structure Bills of Materials (BOM’s). Person Specification Thorough working capability using Catia V5 Fully capable in the development of 3D CAD, 2D engineering drawings. Datum Structure & GD&T familiarity to BS8888/ ASME 14.x Fully conversant with MS Office packages: Word, PowerPoint and Excel Self-starting and self-motivated with the ability to apply own initiative. Happy to work as part of a team and to actively seek collaborative solutions. Ability to work on and be able to switch between multiple projects as needed. Excellent communication and inter-personal skills - both verbal and written Problem solver with awareness of six-sigma methodologies including 8D, Ishikawa and Poke Yoke General & Specialist Knowledge * Knowledge of TS16949 / IATF 16949 an advantage * Knowledge of ISO14001 EMS an advantage * Six Sigma training advantageous * BS8888/ ASME14.x Education & Training * HND/ Degree level, ideally in an engineering discipline. Relevant Experience * Experience of working within an engineering design and manufacturing environment * Experience of the automotive industry, although a military vehicle background would be considered similar. * Automotive Tier 1 or OEM experienced. * Other sectors such as Chemical Process, Mining, Rail, Aerospace, Marine, etc will be considered.
