Control Software Engineer, Automotive, Essex, £56,000 - £65,000 + Benefits Unknown Resourcing is seeking a Control Software Engineer to join our R&D Engineering client in Basildon, Essex. This is an exciting permanent opportunity to work on future Powertrain technology development projects in new exciting sectors. Control Software Engineer responsibilities: Support the development and integration of Fuel Storage Management Control Systems, human-machine interfaces (HMI) and integration of Engine Control Units (ECUs) for hydrogen dual-fuel systems used in heavy-duty/industrial and marine applications. • Create and maintain documentation necessary for control system definition and development. Produce detailed documentation for field support and maintenance of these control systems. • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Chief Engineers, Principal Engineers and Electrical Engineers/Designers to ensure seamless integration of Hydrogen Controls into the overall hydrogen system architecture. • Support the system design, process simulation, and implementation of control algorithms, communication protocols, and safety features to optimize the performance, efficiency, and safety of the hydrogen dual fuel systems. • Understand the critical dependencies within the vehicle/machine/vessel and test cases, ensuring we cover integrated testing between components, systems and features. • Identify the relevant Standards and Regulations for system safety and cybersecurity. • Conduct thorough testing and validation of Hydrogen Controls, ensuring they meet regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal quality benchmarks. • Troubleshoot and debug hardware and software issues in control systems, utilising diagnostic tools and methods to achieve reliable system performance. • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and technical discussions to provide valuable input and contribute to the continuous improvement of the hydrogen system engineering process. • Stay current with industry trends, advancements, and best practices related to hydrogen fuel systems, dual fuel technology, and industrial control system development. Control Software Engineer requirements: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, or related Engineering field. • Proven experience in the design, development of industrial or automotive control systems and testing of Controller Units and PLCs , preferably for hydrogen or alternative systems. 1. proficiency in PLC programming languages (IEC (phone number removed) Standard) or other relevant languages used in embedded systems development such as C/C++, Python, Matlab. 2. proficiency in modelling and simulation software, such as MatLab/ Simulink 1. with communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet, etc.) and real-time operating systems (RTOS) for embedded systems. 2. of control algorithms, sensors, actuators, and feedback systems. 3. problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment. 4. communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 5. experience in the heavy-duty vehicle, industrial, or marine sectors is advantageous. 6. of safety standards and regulations related to automotive or industrial control systems, including functional safety. 7. to travel 10% of the time to support new products sign-off, launch and quality actions.
