Key accountabilities: * Provide support for the development of policies and procedures to cover all procurement activities. * Work with others to develop the MRP system to meet the needs of all stakeholders and to realise the objective of total e-procurement. Typically, your duties will include selecting products, finding suppliers and negotiating prices, plus making sure goods arrive on time and suppliers are paid. You should ensure that all terms and conditions with suppliers are held and reviewed before expiry dates. * You will work alongside other departments in the organisation, and may have other responsibilities such as storage, stock control, budgeting and sales analysis. As a Buyer, you will have responsibility for quality control of delivered items and work closely with the quality and manufacturing teams. * Work with others to develop and implement an approved supplier list, introducing vendor assessment techniques to measure performance and quality of supply * Work with others to develop and implement a contracts register to cover all contracts and enable signed document tracking, re-negotiation timetables and regular best value reviews. * Assist with the area of capital and revenue expenditure within the budgets set in order to deliver both cashable and non-cashable savings against agreed targets. * Prioritise and manage all procurement activities using a range of contracts and contract management techniques and provide management information as appropriate i.e. expedite reporting. * Work with others for the effective and proactive liaison with all functions within Gardner Aerospace to enable feedback, supply forecasting, process change and quality of supply. * To attend meetings as required, work with and lead on as necessary, regional and national initiatives in line with the National Framework. * Ensure modern procurement methods and techniques are both understood and implemented by the procurement team. * Take responsibility for personal performance and the development of personal skills to ensure the required skills, knowledge and competence to fulfil the role. * Communicate skills and knowledge to colleagues in order to support the development of the team and professional competence. * Manage the areas of responsibility attached to the post or commensurate with the role in accordance with the requirements of Gardner Aerospace. * Encourage and promote the values of Gardner Aerospace and comply with the required standards of conduct and so promote the Gardner Aerospace within the community by acting with integrity and honesty. * Comply with Company’s Health & Safety policies to support a safe working environment. * Promote and adhere to Company’s Equal Opportunities Policy and principles to support the development of a diverse workforce and respect the views and needs of the wider community. * Working to ISO 5001/9001 standards Core skills/attributes needed: - Extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes, preferably within the aerospace or automotive industry - Ability to understand and interpret engineering drawings and aerospace specifications - First class leadership and motivational skills - CAD CAM experience - Problem analysis and decision making - Strong customer focus combined with business development skills/ commercial awareness - Understanding of process capability and improvement tools - Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques and other modern manufacturing methods - You should have demonstrable experience of working with MRP systems to record and analyse performance and monitor stock levels. - Be able to make decisions, meet targets and work under pressure. - Have a business-like approach, and use tact and diplomacy when negotiating. - Be able to absorb and assess information quickly. - Have the numerical skills to interpret statistics and make commercial decisions. - Be a good negotiator and enjoy dealing with people, whether by phone or in person. - Have good creative ability and an eye for detail. - Have excellent business, planning and organisational skills. - Be an excellent communicator, with plenty of social confidence
