New accident repair apprenticeships future-proof aftermarket

Industry body, the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), continues to future proof the UK motor aftermarket sector with its appointment as an End Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO) for three new accident repair apprenticeships. Designed to train future technicians, the new Level 3 Apprenticeships for which the IMI has been appointed as an End Point Assessment Organisation cover Vehicle Damage Mechanical Electrical and Trim (MET), Vehicle Damage Paint and Vehicle Damage Panel.

Written for employers, by employers, each of the new Standards replace the outgoing apprenticeship frameworks and encompass the evolving technologies now becoming commonplace in the automotive sector, making them ideal for aspiring technicians looking to specialise in accident repair. Designed with different learning styles in mind, the IMI’s standards will ensure apprentices are fully engaged and prepared for their End Point Assessment (EPA).

The IMI offers apprentices, training providers and businesses expert advice, an online eLogbook, Gateway assessments and practice tests – plus the End Point Assessment that certifies that all apprentices meet the criteria. Plus, on successful completion, all apprentices automatically gain IMI Membership, enabling them to demonstrate their professionalism and commitment to the industry.

“This means that apprentices who successfully complete the programme of learning and pass the End Point Assessment will absolutely have the knowledge, competencies and behaviours required to work within these job roles in today’s Vehicle Damage Repair environment. It is crucial that Apprenticeships form part of the solution for addressing skills shortages in this sector and these new standards ensure that apprenticeships continue to be a viable option in succession planning.
