Job Title: Systems Engineer- Electrical & Avionics Salary: Negotiable Location: Bedford Aeropeople have partnered with a privately-held Aerospace OEM company who are now looking to hire a Systems Engineer- Electrical & Avionics to be based at their site in Bedford. The company has a range of proprietary designs (patents & IP) which provide Lighter-Than-Air (LTA) solutions for both the commercial and defence markets, with its current major focus on a long endurance surveillance aircraft (optionally manned) and a heavy lift logistics aircraft capable of lifting 50-tonnes. Reporting to the Head of Systems Engineering, Electrical and Avionics and working closely with the Technical Director and the system specialists, the Systems Engineer will have an electrical and/ or avionics bias to work in the electrical and avionics design team to plan, support and execute all stages of lifecycle management relating to development of the Electrical & Avionics Systems and equipment for the air vehicle and support the development of requirements in other departments. The successful candidate shall take responsibility for applying system engineering practices to capture requirements from a wide range of stakeholders including customers, regulatory bodies, operators, maintainers and management personnel in addition to managing the validation and verification activities for the electrical and avionics systems. The ability to produce and/ or review System Safety Assessments (SSA) and Functional Hazard Analysis would be an advantage. Experience in using a modern model based systems engineering tool is a requirement. There may be opportunities in this role, for the right person, to become one of the company’s EASA Compliance Verification Engineers and/ or a Flight Test Engineer, to carry out ground and flight testing activities, as required by the Company, depending upon experience. Main Responsibilities: * Establishing and maintaining Systems Engineering Management, Integration, Verification, and Validation plans. * Supporting the establishment and maintenance of Certification Plans. * Capturing requirements from a range of sources including, hazard studies, existing specifications, airworthiness standards, operators, maintainers, and management personnel. * Specifying safety requirements. * Evaluating requirements to establish whether they are consistent and complete, and their relative priorities. * Partitioning of requirements into individual sub-systems so that the overall system & safety requirements can be met. * Evaluating architectural design solutions against performance criteria to provide a safe, technically and economically viable solution. * Specifying the system architecture and developing Item Specifications. * Liaison with, and monitoring of, equipment suppliers. * Accepting items for integration. * Performing Integration, Verification and Validation activities at Equipment, Sub-System and System level. * Supporting the establishment and maintenance of certification summary/ compliance reports. Benefits: * Negotiable salary * Company pension scheme * 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (increasing to 30 with length of service) * Onsite, free parking About You: * Aerospace or general engineering degree or equivalent experience. * Safety-Critical Systems experience. * Significant experience in a Systems Engineering role. * Use of a model-based systems engineering tool- a Model Based Systems Engineering qualification would be advantageous. * Systems Engineering in an Aerospace or other safety critical environment (esp. SAE ARP4754). * Working knowledge of: Electrical and/or avionics Engineering. * Software and Complex Electronic Hardware development processes. Configuration & Data Management. * Executable modelling using SysML (1.4 or later) is desirable. * Experience with Cameo Systems Modeller would be an advantage. * An awareness of CAA/EASA/FAA certification procedures would be an advantage. * Ability to consider requirements in the context of the overall system and ability to abstract away from unimportant detail. * Ability to evaluate models and requirements without bias. * Highly computer literate with a high standard of written and spoken English. * Ability to liaise with other technical systems design groups with the Company. * Excellent knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). * Conscientious, with a proactive work ethic. * Good time management/ prioritisation skills. * Keen to contribute to the quality, safety and integrity of the aircraft.
