Job Reference: J(phone number removed) Job Title: Senior Avionics Systems Design Engineer Location: Bedford Salary: Negotiable dependent upon experience About the Company: Aeropeople have partnered with a privately-held Aerospace OEM company who are now looking to hire a Senior Avionics Systems Design Engineer to be based at their site in Bedford. The company has a range of proprietary designs (patents & IP) which provide Lighter-Than-Air (LTA) solutions for both the commercial and defence markets, with its current major focus on a long endurance surveillance aircraft (optionally manned) and a heavy lift logistics aircraft capable of lifting 50-tonnes. The successful candidate will have a strong background in the design and development of aircraft avionics systems including Electronic Flight Instrument Systems (EFIS), Flight Management Systems (FMS), Communication, Navigation and Identification systems Reporting to the Head of Systems Engineering, Electrical and Avionics, the Senior Avionics Systems Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of the major avionics systems from requirements capture through to system test and verification. Responsibilities will include developing system and equipment specifications, writing Interface Control Documents (ICD), supplier engineering management, producing wiring schemes, system testing and validation and verification activities. The successful candidate may become one of the company’s EASA Compliance Verification Engineers. Job Description: * Working closely within the Engineering team, and other departments, on all aspects of aircraft development, providing analysis results and supporting decision-making to inform future flight test planning and aircraft development work. * With the Head of Systems Engineering, Electrical and Avionics, defining, planning and managing activities in support of aircraft electrical and avionics design work. * Applying system engineering practice to the development of the various bespoke avionics systems and associated hardware. * Leading the design and technical management of key elements of the Company’s products. * Providing technical management of suppliers to ensure the end product meets the input specification. * Managing supplier design reviews and witnessing supplier testing. * Providing technical liaison with the relevant Certification Authority and ensuring that all applicable EASA design and environmental requirements are met. * Providing input to, and liaising with, Programmes to produce Statements of Work. * Providing support to the engineers for vehicle system testing. * Provision of technical support for development programmes. * Liaison with Design, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance and other appropriate departments to develop optimum design solutions. * Producing Interface Control Documents, specifications and system schematics. * Representing the company on bespoke equipment development orientated issues with certification agencies and customers. * Development of tools and processes, and performing other related duties as required by the Company to inform aircraft development decisions. Benefits: * Negotiable salary * Company pension scheme * 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (increasing to 30 with length of service) * Life Assurance (4 x salary) * Onsite, free parking Skills and Qualifications: * Aerospace engineering degree, or equivalent experience, with emphasis on avionics and electrical fields. * Proven experience in the aerospace industry working on system architecture and managing suppliers, or a product development background within the aerospace environment. * A good understanding and knowledge of avionics engineering principles gained within the aerospace industry including architecture knowledge. * A good working knowledge and experience of application of classical electrical engineering design methods. * Experience of working across a broad area of design from concept through to detail design and then onto limited test/ production support. * Exposure to processes across the product ARP4754 lifecycle from concept through to production. * An awareness of CAA/EASA/FAA certification procedures. * A good understanding of aeronautical methods. * Experienced and able to produce specifications and provide technical supplier management. * Able to work with overall vehicle performance and other systems design groups within the Company. * Excellent verbal communication/ negotiation skills at all levels within the business. * Highly computer literate with a high standard of written and spoken English. * Ability to prepare technical documentation, including specifications and reports. * Ability to liaise with other technical systems design groups with the Company. * Excellent knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). * Experience in System Engineering principles desirable but not essential.
