Project Engineer Nottingham £competitive My client provides a comprehensive range of services and products including engineering, design and development, right through to manufacturing bespoke products. As a tier 1 supplier to the premium automotive sector for interior components and wheels they are very much at the cutting edge of today’s vehicle component market. ROLE OVERVIEW The primary role of the Project Engineer is to ensure successfully delivery of a project in line with the requirements defined by the customer (either internal or external). Where requirements are not full defined then the Project Engineer will propose options/state assumptions to close those gaps. While the main focus is Engineering, the breadth of potential projects could potential apply to any department within the business including Logistics, Quality and Sales. On larger projects the Project Engineer may be required to support other team members leading that particular project. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Act as a key interface with OEM customers ensuring that they are provide with exceptional Engineered products and support Lead delivery of projects to mandated deadlines which satisfy customer requirements and meet targeted budgets Derive timing plans (including APQP gateways) to set out the necessary activities required for successful project delivery and estimate resource levels required to achieve Organise and run regular meetings to ensure project deliverables are completed by Team Support Quality Team in completion of Team Feasibility sign off at appropriate gateways Generate Design solutions with CAD Designer that satisfy project requirements including checking and releasing outputted 3D data & drawings Generate 2D CAD drawings (plus minor 3D CAD changes) to support project releases Maintain BOM and associated drawings status at all stages of project and communicate updates to wider team (including sub-suppliers) Ensure robust data management is employed for key project documents including 3D, drawings, customer specifications and process documentation Communicate timing and technical requirements to sub-suppliers Run team forum to progress FMEA and associated actions including generation of SCs & CCs Take ownership of generation of DVP including management of testing suppliers Generate equipment, tooling and assembly process solutions with Manufacturing and Process Engineers that satisfy project requirements Lead prototype build activities including purchase of sub-component quantities Digest and understand measured geometry on development/pre-production parts and report conclusions and drive improvement actions Oversee management of equipment and tooling purchase by Manufacturing and Process Engineers assisting with specification where required Effectively manage change control on all NPI and current production designs Tackle issues using appropriate problem-solving methods (including 8D for unknown root causes) Facilitate the resolution of conflicts within the project team where stalemate has been reached Utilise established processes to achieve objectives – Whether formal or informal Where processes are incomplete, missing or not applied then identify the issue and communicate to relevant parties Meet commitments on timing of assigned tasks Log hours assigned to individual projects Ensure progress and output from assigned tasks are logged and communicated appropriately Support the Sales Team in business wining/quotation activities where requested Assess and report feasibility of customer requirements on potential new projects Support Quality team in specification and commissioning of measurement fixtures Proactively identify areas of quality risk in any area of the business and report to Management Coach other team members in your areas of expertise Contribute to meeting Engineering Team KPI targets SKILLSET & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Familiar with APQP requirements and processes Able to utilise and coach others in FMEA methodology Good understanding of key GD&T principles Conversant in problem solving methodologies Ability to design in 3D and 2D using CATIA V5 Proficiency in standard software tools (Windows, Explorer, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project and Visio) Understanding of manufacturing processes relevant to the projects undertaken Full driving license
