Principal Back End Developer

The Role Reporting into the Head of Development, the Principal Back-end Developer will lead our platform and integrations development teams through agile processes, collaborate with other principal developers to ensure standards, policies, and the solution architecture for existing and new products. In addition to the above, you will: * Ensure there are development principles and quality standards agreed, produced and maintained and these are understood and being adhered to by the development community. * Educate, mentor, and coach our back-end developers across all our dev squads with a focus on the importance of good software design and development. * Advocate and set an example to all developers on the importance of learning and improvement. * Identify system problems & constraints and lead on the design of solutions to remedy. * Provide technical governance and technical thought leadership. * Represent the company within conferences and open source communities with a back-end focus. The Person As these roles will be working with people across the company, you will need to be a great communicator, building effective relationships with people across the company and able to present information with clarity and simplicity. This is a fast-paced environment and you will need to be a confident self-starter, work well under pressure with excellent planning and organisational skills and the ability to prioritise is essential. They encourage and expect team members to take the initiative and seek to continuously improve both themselves and the business. Knowledge & Experience: Essential: * Experience in a similar role or team lead role with the ability to lead teams technically. * Excellent knowledge of and exposure to SCRUM and Agile ways of working. * Expert knowledge of PHP with exposure to at least one commonly used framework (eg Symfony, Laravel). Desired: * Knowledge of the insurance and/or motor industry. * Knowledge/experience of AWS and cloud technology (training will also be offered within the role) Snapshot of the Package * Flexible working with 3 days a week working in the office (either Leeds or Harlow based) * Enhanced sick pay increasing with service. * Pension contributions at 4% each. * Life Assurance 4x salary. * Holiday increasing with service. * Buy or sell holiday with Holiday Trading. * Salary sacrifice Cycle to Work scheme
