An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Legal and Contracts Manager to join Thales Belfast Integrated Airspace Protection Systems (IAS). Operating in an incremental role working across a wide array of internal stakeholders aligned to a diverse portfolio of products and services in the defence and space sector, this role combines both commercial and contractual aspects of both bid preparation and projects throughout the full life cycle, with the key objective to minimize risk and maximise margin and cash. Primary Purpose of the Role: The primary purpose is to deliver best practice contract management as an integral part of the business to support IAS UK win new business and sign commercially robust contracts in the pre-contract phase and ensure that obligations are met, contractual risk is appropriately managed and opportunities are maximised through constructive contractual relationships throughout the life of the contract. As a Contract Manager you will take direct responsibility for commercial matters on a designated Bids and Project/s through capture and delivery phases. The role is central to the commercial success of the business. As such the Contracts Manager will be a proactive and integral member of the IAS team to ensure that the commercial objectives of the business are achieved and initiatives for commercial procedures are recommended / implemented and adhered too.  The Contracts Manager will: * Provide advice and recommendations to the projects under their remit on commercial issues, risks, liabilities and opportunities. * Provide guidance on terms and conditions for the benefit of the broader project team and maintain awareness of best commercial practice. * Support to senior management and where required participate in commercial negotiations with customer, consortium partners and in conjunction with Procurement, sub-contractors and other 3rd parties. * Respond to and negotiate customers proposed contractual agreements and Contract ‘Changes’ and support senior management in the management of such changes, including the preparation, approval and negotiation. * Provide to project/bid teams advice, recommendations and costings pertaining to International contracts in relation to Direct Selling Costs, including but not limited to Credit Insurance, Bank Guarantees and Letter of Credits. * Identify and manage issues and disputes arising with customers in conjunction with the Legal function. Here are some of the key skills, experience and attributes we are looking for in our next Contracts Manager: * A good level of commercial and business acumen * Knowledge of contractual Terms & Conditions * An understanding of cost and pricing techniques and contract finance issues would be beneficial * Experience working with a variety of customers and internal teams, with excellent communication skills * An ability to identify pragmatic solutions and take pragmatic decisions * Approachable, responsible and customer focused * Ability to work with competing priorities and deadlines This role will require SC Clearance.
