Fluid System Design Engineer - Hypercar

What You'll Do: * Own one or more vehicle fluid subsystems from "cradle to grave." This encompasses performance requirements and regulatory compliance, conceptual CAD design & system layout, component/supplier selection/recommendation, detailed component design, detailed manufacturing definition, design prototype and production part procurement, inventory tracking, subsystem installation, component and system-level testing (as needed), validation, documentation, and production planning * Produce, release, and sustain 3D CAD detailed component and assembly models and 2D drawings (as needed) of the hardware for which you are responsible * Perform component and system level analysis to properly size fluid networks and appropriate components * Produce supporting documentation to communicate design and assembly intent to manufacturing contractors, fabricators and technicians * Select and liaise with suppliers to develop key system components * Work closely with the Powertrain Team to deliver well-integrated solutions * Develop systems that are high-performing, mass efficient, and are compliant with the requirements of the relevant regulatory agencies. * Conceive and implement validation testing, monitoring, and reporting methodology * Be available and flexible to support off-site activities (testing, marketing events, etc) up to 10% of the time What You'll Have: * You have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline * You have at least 4 years of work experience designing and/or developing automotive or aerospace fluid systems and components * Ideally you will have had experience developing low-volume high-end products, particularly high-performance powertrain and/or aerospace propulsion fluid systems * Automotive HVAC and/or refrigeration components design experience is highly desirable * Experienced with component design release and configuration management * You have experience working in a highly energetic team and have a demonstrated track record of meeting challenging deliverables on programs with aggressive deadlines * You have interfaced with and leveraged a network of external powertrain-related suppliers/vendors. We may even know some of the same contacts at one or more of these suppliers with whom you have collaborated * You are very familiar with typical automotive fluids, their properties, material compatibility, seal selection, etc * If asked to, you could speak confidently about some of the manufacturing processes typical to automotive/aerospace fluid systems (for example routing tubing, CNC tube bending requirements, flaring, swaging, welding, brazing, facing, crimping, staking, tube drawing, hydroforming, annealing, heat treating, etc.) * You are familiar with SAE, AS, NAS, or some other governing agency standards relevant to the design of fluid systems. You may even have portions of certain key standards partially committed to memory * You have experience selecting specialized fittings for use in fluid system layouts * You have a solid understanding of how automotive fluids are sealed, drained, filled, bled, de-gassed, transferred, and handled safely * You are familiar with some of the best practices for ensuring fluid component cleanliness * You are familiar with various types of fluid pumps, their typical uses, their selection, etc * You are familiar with 3D printed plastic and metallic materials * You have a solid grasp of fluid and structural mechanics concepts and how they apply to the design and analysis of fluid systems and components * You possess a basic understanding of the fundamentals of heat and mass transfer as they pertain to typical automotive fluid systems * You have strong CAD skills -NX 11 (or higher) and Teamcenter PLM experience preferred * Experience performing structural FEA; CFD analysis skills desirable * You may have had experience performing a system-level simulation with MATLAB/Simulink, GT-SUITE, or similar package which was later anchored to experimental test data (highly desirable) * You have written and/or maintained technical specification requirements * You are able to read and understand technical documents, drawings, specifications, etc * You are comfortable leading test and development activities, as well as collecting, reducing, and reporting on the findings from test data * You have participated in or are familiar with the DFMEA process * You are self-motivated and have excellent time-management and problem-solving skills * You have strong verbal and written communication skills; you can present your ideas clearly to your team members and are comfortable receiving constructive criticism * You make fact-based, as opposed to emotionally based, decisions * You are passionate about sustainability and cleantech * You are unphased by changes in strategic direction; you can adapt when the plan changes * You are willing to roll up your sleeves, jump in, and get your hands dirty * You are willing to wear a variety of "hats" * You are familiar with the culture of startups and welcome challenges
