Senior Electrical Machine / Motor Design Engineer Oxfordshire, UK £45-55k+ This is a very exciting, challenging and interesting technical engineering opportunity for a proven electrical machine design engineer with strong electromagnetic design ability to join a small but growing company that is involved with the design and development of axial flux traction motors and electric drivetrain systems for the electric vehicle market. Key points: * The ability to design and develop motors from concept and to production * Advance ongoing research and development of new electric motor technologies * Innovate and create new concepts and ideas through applied research and practical product and prototype development * Experience of axial flux traction motor technologies is preferred * Strong electromagnetic design and modelling experience is required Experience of the automotive domain is not the most crucial factor in this electrical machine design position. The company is looking for an experienced motor design engineer with a strong electromagnetic design, modelling and simulation background to aid in the design and architecture a new family of electric motor products. They wish to introduce a new range of axial flux motors into the electric vehicle marketplace and this a chance for a creative, collaborative, passionate and ambitious electrical machine engineer to make their mark in the industry. Skills / Knowledge Required: * A relevant degree, Masters or PhD relating to electrical engineering and specifically to electrical machines / motor design and electromagnetic design and modelling * Proven experience in the design, simulation, test and validation of electric motors (use of tools such as Matlab & Simulink, Simplorer, Ansys Maxwell typically) * Knowledge of motor architectures (ideally axial flux but maybe radial flux, etc) * In-depth knowledge of PMSMs and their control strategies. * Practical hands-on approach to engineering (test, validation and verification of prototypes) – able to work effectively in a small company environment * Able to research, develop and verify new control strategies for axial flux electric motors * Setting up of various traction motor controllers (e.g. Sevcon Gen4, Curtis Instruments and EMSISO emDrive). Others; (beneficial) * Experience of software tools or scripting languages such as Python, Matlab, Excel * Experience of the automotive sector or other safety critical domains would be preferred * Basic knowledge of CAN bus (CANopen). * Experience with EMC would be a bonus This Electrical Machine / Motor Design Engineer opening is commutable from Oxford, Banbury, Bicester, Milton Keynes, Leamington Spa, Northampton and Aylesbury
