What does the role look like? The Design Engineer will offer conceptual design support and uphold and enhance the design integrity of products within a multi-disciplinary engineering team. This role entails providing design support across all stages of the design process, ranging from initial requirements capture and proposal preparation to detailed design, manufacturing, and qualification. The quality of design deliverables, adherence to procedures, and familiarity with aircraft actuation equipment are pivotal aspects of this role. What will your day-to-day responsibilities look like? * Generating design concepts and configurations for a wide range of actuation systems, incorporating hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, or mechanical elements (e.g., hydraulic actuators, hydraulic valve blocks, gearboxes, ballscrew actuators, etc.). * Providing design support at all stages of the design process, from initial requirements capture and proposal preparation to detailed design, manufacturing, and qualification within a multi-disciplinary engineering team, including: * Ensuring adherence to the design process while meeting timescale requirements. * Developing optimized product designs in terms of cost, weight, and robustness by challenging existing designs and proposing new ideas. * Collaborating with customers and suppliers to resolve design issues. * Ensuring correct installation between products within an Actuation System and interfacing equipment. * Conducting internal and customer presentations for design reviews. * Delivering high-quality manufacturing data packages, including tolerance analysis and manufacturing drawings. * Ensuring the completeness of the product design regarding robustness, in-service requirements, and compliance with customer and regulatory authority standards. * Participating in problem-solving activities throughout the manufacturing, qualification, and in-service phases of a project. * Taking responsibility within the multi-disciplinary engineering team to ensure that design engineering procedures and work instructions are implemented consistently and rigorously. * Participating in Risk Analysis activities, including identifying risks and agreeing on mitigation methods (analysis, test comparison, etc.). * Providing design engineering support to project planning and execution of design work packages, ensuring that all design engineering activities are defined and supported. * Offering design engineering support and guidance to graduate recruits, student placements, and students on work experience within the multi-disciplinary engineering project team. * Responsible for approving design engineering documentation for which authorization to approve has been granted. What will you bring to the role? Essential skills: * Engineering background with knowledge of machine design, electro-hydraulic, and/or electro-mechanical equipment product configurations. * Proficiency as an experienced CAD user, with a preference for CATIA. * Ability to work independently, maintain composure under pressure, and adapt to changes. Desirable skills: * Relevant Engineering Qualifications * Familiarity with aerospace actuation systems and associated requirements. * Experience with Teamcenter PLM system. * High personal integrity in professional conduct. * Logical approach to technical problem-solving and decision-making processes. * Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. * Proficiency in general PC software (e.g., Windows, MS Office). * Driven by process compliance.
