Reporting to this position: there are no direct reports for this position but may be required to manage day to day activities of team members as required and may serve as a subject matter expert to less experienced team members. The incumbent will be expected to be competent in managing multiple moderate Cost Reduction component projects as well as moderately complex RPM projects. The position will lead cross functional project teams to determine the most appropriate course of action that best meets the business objective whilst balancing performance, quality, velocity, and cost. The cross-functional teams could include employees from quality, service, design, mfg, etc. The objective of this position is to lead the teams through the identification, evaluation and execution of cost reduction opportunities to meet Business Unit cost objectives. Leading these discussions and projects will be moderately difficult in nature due to the multiple "trade-offs" (negotiations / compromises) each area will need to make to achieve the quality and cost goals. The position requires a proactive approach with good analytical skills and the ability to influence others to resolve conflict that may arise between processes, objectives or solutions. This position will have the ability to predict potential issues and initiate appropriate mitigating actions This position identifies who is needed on each project and makes team member recommendation, provides leadership and is the key communicator for Collaborative Product and Process Development. The incumbent directs teams to interface with Suppliers and Purchasing to ensure early collaboration on design for Manufacturability, Assembly and Cost. The position will ensure the development, analysis, and documentation of cost information for new product development, design, cost improvement, make versus buy, and other special projects Beyond the completion of its own work, the position assigns and reviews the day-to-day work of other employees. Typical internal customers include purchasing, engineering, finance and product management. The position's primary customers are internal. The incumbent sets priorities and establishes a work plan in order to complete defined assignments and achieve desired results. Travel will be required periodically. The incumbent may also be required to own, maintain and refine one or more departmental process i.e. Fact Pack, LPP, Sourcing Council etc BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE: Typically requires bachelor degree plus 3 to 5 years of relevant engineering experience or a masters or doctorate degree. Progressively responsible job-related experience is typically required. Requires an engineering, manufacturing or commercial background with a high level of product knowledge. In addition, they should have a technical or commercial background, in most cases, these are individuals with a minimum of 3 to 5 years' experience in a suitable environment. Excellent interpersonal skills are required in order to deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or persuade others inside and outside the department to take specific actions. Good understanding of company policies and procedures related to manufacturing, engineering and change management are also required.
