Car Technicians carry out a range of services and repairs to vehicles. It’s a job that calls for a unique combination of technical, retail and customer service skills.

Over the two year Apprenticeship, you’ll learn all you need to get going, working to an ‘Auto-care Technician’ Level 2 qualification. Many apprentices from the scheme go on to join the AA in a permanent position.

A keen interest and enthusiasm for automotive vehicles is essential as well as honesty and a willingness to learn. A positive attitude, confidence and a focus on delivering excellent customer service. To be able to work effectively as part of a team as well as having the ability to work independently. Always strives to deliver excellent work and first time fixes.

Skills required

As a minimum requirement you’ll need:

  • A driving license
  • To be eligible to work in the UK
  • A strong desire to pursue a career in automotive mechanical engineering

Training information

In a fast-moving car industry, you won't be bored. You’ll take eighteen months for distance learning, and also spend six months on ‘block release’ on site at the Bournemouth training academy.

The time you spend away from home will be expenses paid, we’ll pay for your hotel, travel and meals while you’re there. Although you will have a strict budget to work to.

A Personal Tutor will visit monthly to assess your progress and help you along. Support will also be on hand from an AA peer mentor and an Early Careers Business Partner.
